Brief 8 - Prospectus breakdown

We got together today to sort the order of the prospectus, laying the old prospectus out page by page on a table so we could have a full overview of exactly what went where. We proposed that each course would have three double page spreads, giving more space for images which will form the majority of the content in the prospectus, especially with it being an art college. Along with this we proposed that the main information pages sit at the front so that the bulk of information can be dealt with in one section.

Brief 7 - Design Context letters

Letters for design context that I'll be sending out to studios in tubes along with prints. This letter outlines some questions that I'm going to ask the studios, and is more of an initial point of contact.

Brief 5 - Carriage Works - word mark

Development of the word mark for the Carriage works brief into something much more finalised. Here I have just altered the kerning and leaded it so that it would work in a number of contexts. I have also tried it on grey because of the carriage works' exterior being a very flat and fairly dark stone.

Brief 4 - ISTD - event catalogue.

Above is an initial layout I did for the contents, using a simple ordered line based system, as well as using tabbed additional information. However, I don't think, although I was using a tenuous link between the design of the contents and code,  that this is the most effective way to lay it out.

Above is a revised layout, without the right information, but I think this makes a nice link between this and the font that I developed to be used for this, and the grid used in its development. The pages are also not A5, they are a 4:6 ratio, the same as the grid used for the typeface.

Brief 8 - Meeting with Pressision.

Today we went over to Pressision print just outside of Leeds to speak with Ian Cavanagh about printing the prospectus. This involved the processes they have available, their links to paper suppliers as well as projects they've previously worked on.

Big up Sophie Wilson for this image.

They have experience working with both designers and much more commercial clients.
Prospectus as a job is at the high end of their job size and usual format runs.

They offer lower cost through having automated presses, meaning that the time required to set up printing and the presses is much less.

Foiling / embossing / folding / die cutting in house.
Cheaper as not out sourced.

Open to producing further work on top of the prospectus

Testing - will need trial runs for some of the processes. Such as the proposed Foil and emboss on the cover overlapping. Not something they've done before.

270gsm cover, better in terms of binding
Possibly more economical using a clear foil as doesn't require the dyes necessary for others. Foil may need to be a double run to get the necessary strength.

Inner pages will make the bulk of the jobs cost

20,000 run.

Dean O'Gorman Photography

Really clean and professional website for Dean O'Gorman, a respected photographer based in New Zealand. Particularly like how the logo type sits over the image as the colour used seems to show brilliantly on all the photos.
