Brief 8 - Prospectus cover designs

GF Smith Pale grey

 GF Smith Racing green

 GF Smith Smoke grey

After the presentation to senior management it came to light that they were most interested in the smoke grey covers however here are a number of colours that we pitched to them, attempting to show a mock emboss on each. The white text would be a foil that slightly overlaps the emboss. Something which will need testing on the printers part as it may be tricky to achieve.

Brief 8 - Prospectus breakdown

We got together today to sort the order of the prospectus, laying the old prospectus out page by page on a table so we could have a full overview of exactly what went where. We proposed that each course would have three double page spreads, giving more space for images which will form the majority of the content in the prospectus, especially with it being an art college. Along with this we proposed that the main information pages sit at the front so that the bulk of information can be dealt with in one section.

Brief 8 - Meeting with Pressision.

Today we went over to Pressision print just outside of Leeds to speak with Ian Cavanagh about printing the prospectus. This involved the processes they have available, their links to paper suppliers as well as projects they've previously worked on.

Big up Sophie Wilson for this image.

They have experience working with both designers and much more commercial clients.
Prospectus as a job is at the high end of their job size and usual format runs.

They offer lower cost through having automated presses, meaning that the time required to set up printing and the presses is much less.

Foiling / embossing / folding / die cutting in house.
Cheaper as not out sourced.

Open to producing further work on top of the prospectus

Testing - will need trial runs for some of the processes. Such as the proposed Foil and emboss on the cover overlapping. Not something they've done before.

270gsm cover, better in terms of binding
Possibly more economical using a clear foil as doesn't require the dyes necessary for others. Foil may need to be a double run to get the necessary strength.

Inner pages will make the bulk of the jobs cost

20,000 run.

Brief 8 - Photos for Prospectus pitch

Here are the images we selected to showcase Bens work for the pitch to senior management. We thought that they nicely summed up Ben's style of photography as well as giving a good idea of the kind of image that we want in the prospectus.

Brief 8 - Additional prospectus spreads

A few additional prospectus spreads created for the pitch to senior management showing the flexibility of the grid created and the image size possible using when information can be applied to a greater area. Our previous spreads showed all the information for the course area condensed onto a single spread, whereas in actual fact we'd have another to work with for each. We also made the grid clear on one of the spreads, as well as showed the use of different stock/section pages within the publication to break up the various sections of the prospectus.
