Brief 7 - Design Context Bound Publication.

The finished and bound design context publication. Perfect bound with half sheet cover. 106 pages altogether.

brief 7 - Design Context inner cover

Inside cover sheet for my design context publication which uses an image from each of the studios included in the publication. I have printed this in black and white with a 25% opacity so images are not too intrusive on the text. Text on the cover is printed in a shade of yellow similar to the colour of the half sheet cover. this was done by feeding the paper back through the printer after printing the original images in black and white and I think it works really well. Surprisingly so. Each of the images also has the letter corresponding to the studio that produced it overlaid.

Brief 7 - Design Context interview pages

Printed interview pages for my design context publication. These are printed on different colour stock from the main copy page and work almost like inserts. the first page for each reflects the page underneath it with the addition of the images on the page with a reduced opacity. All text on the interview pages is set in a shade of the colour that the paper is, and is set towards the outside edge of the page, images are on the inside. I think these inserts are working really nicely and give the publication a nice break from the standard white cartridge paper.

Brief 7 - Design Context cover

Printed cover for the context publication. Front cover is a reduced width sheet and works like an index page with studios ordered alphabetically. There are no page numbers in the publication, only letters that appear in the corners of every page corresponding to the letters on the front.

Brief 7 - Design Context interview page development

Interview page developments. Moving away from the half sheet format as this will probably be lost in the bind, or would be difficult to read because of the crease in the pages. Gone for a similar layout, with the text columns the same width as they would have been on the half sheet, however they are at the edge of the page to account for the binding. Images relating to the text are in the centre. Felt it was more important to be able to read the text than necessarily see the entire image.

Brief 7 - Design Context - printed layouts

A number of printed layouts for my design context publication. Quite happy with these so far and I think they'll look much better when bound.

Brief 7 - Design context interview pages.

Developing the inner interview pages to reflect the half sheet front cover. These would be in different stock to indicate that it is separate to the main pages and also to break up the publication, due to their placing within the publication at fairly even intervals. text on these pages will be in a saturated shade the same as the paper, further indicating that its a different section from the main studio pages.

Brief 7 - Design Context Index Cover

Front cover design for Design context publication. This will be a half sheet and will act like an index, showing all the content of the publication in order on the cover.

Brief 7 - Design Context - Cover design

Designing the inner cover to sit behind the yellow half sheet. I wanted this to showcase a piece of every studios work within the publication in order to give an idea of the amount of studios. I thought the amount of images might also give an interesting cover. Printing them black and white at a reduced opacity would mean that I could then print text over the top and it would work more like a background. the irregular sizing and positioning of the images just makes it a little more visually engaging and the even spacing between each image means that it is not intrusive on the text placed over the top. The text will be the same colour as the yellow/orange cover.
