Here I have taken the vital information about the sound recordings from the British Library website, choosing info that I thought would most easily translate to the descriptions of the photography. Particularly relevant in this book is the position/grid reference and county that the recordings and images are from. I have placed this info at the start of each linguistic description to make it clear.
Initially I had the numbers in the top left corner next to the description, however I think that it is a little intrusive on the rest of the information in this corner. Moving this to the bottom of the page I think will give a much cleaner appearance to the spreads.
Above is the opening spread, this provides a short description of the Survey of English Dialects carried out by the British Library. I want to keep the spread as simple as possible in this dialect information book because the information presented is so complicated. I have used a colorplan swatch from the GF Smith website to give the pages the shade that they should be in the final printed publication, as this will be printed on colorplan bright white.
Above is a finished layout, this publication will be entirely text so I have tried to give the spreads as much space as possible. The numbers for each layout are in the bottom left and I have given a column width at the left of each page to offset the text. I think this gives the appearance that there is a little less text. Breaking up the text also means that the most important information is at the start so that the more complex information does not necessarily have to be tackled first.
